Giveacar is a social enterprise that raises money for charity by scrapping or selling unwanted cars. Set up by a 24-year-old graduate, the company picks up the vehicles for free and uses eco-friendly recycling facilities to break them down into raw materials. Cars worth more than their scrap value are sold at auction. The car owner then chooses which charity the money should go to. Giveacar is the first service of its kind in the UK and provides a new source of funds for charities, whilst allowing car owners to get rid of their unwanted cars and put them to good use. In under two years of operation, Giveacar has raised over US$ half a million (£490,000) for more than 500 charities.
